Quaker Oat Silos

120 E. Mill St., Akron

In the early1930's, Quaker Oats expanded its Akron cereal  operations and, as late as 1933, built great silos on the site of Schumacher's Jumbo Mill along South Broadway. Grain was pushed by compressed air through tubes running under Mill Street to the processing plants three blocks away. In 1980 most of the silos were converted into a hotel.
